Memphis Section Merit Camp
|
This year's merit camp was hosted by Outpost 57 at Collierville. There were 12 boys and 11 adults in attendance. Although, it snowed about 5 inches, we didn't let that stop us from having a blast. The boys had the option of earning the Marksmanship, Truck Transportation, and Weather merits or the Pioneering and Truck Transportation merits. If you didn't make it, here are some of the other things you missed.
Camping inside the church
Jody's buffalo stew
Fri. night devotion "Jesus: Our Strong Tower" by Sectional Commander David Bush
Friday night movie "Facing the Giants"
11:00 p.m. snowball fight
Drew's world famous pancake breakfast
Sat. morning devotion "Swinging Bridge" by former Sectional Commander Bill Davis
Exploring the cab of an 18 wheeler semi
Mexican tacos
Lashing a 14 foot tall tower inside the old sanctuary
Building a rope bridge right through the middle of the old sanctuary
I look forward to seeing you at next year's merit camp!
David Bush
Sectional Commander

Pinewood Derby
|

It was a great day for racing and we finished in record time. We had 83 cars registered and completed all of the racing in less than 2.5 hours. It seemed longer if you were just watching, but for the judges and officials it went really fast.
I want to again thank Skip Wright, Tom Throne and David Bush for staying Friday night until after midnight setting up the tracks and judging the best design. It was a lot of hard work, but I feel like we had a successful event. In spite of a slight glitch with our record keeping for the racing brackets, we were able to fix the error and made sure the appropriate cars were racing during each leg of the bracket. Thanks for your patience and next year we should have it down better. I look forward to next year and hopefully we will have even more cars and outposts involved.
Thanks to all of the officials who helped put on a successful event. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks for the participation of all.
Doug "Talking Bull" Kave
Sectional Pinewood Derby Coordinator
